Organs without Bodies, 2023-2024
Inspired by the concept coined by Slavoj Žižek, the installation explores a world where everyday objects are created through generative AI and 3D printing, without the need for human labor or traditional design processes. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a dining table adorned with AI-generated objects such as teapots, plates, and cutlery, all materialized through cutting-edge 3D printing technologies.
What kind of transformative effects will generative artificial intelligence and 3D printing technologies have on our most intimate spaces when anyone can make everything in an instant?
The objects in the installation were created using a custom-made generative AI model that can make 3D models from text descriptions. By prompting the model with textual descriptions such as “a surreal vase made out of body parts” or “a surreal teapot made out of organs”, a series of 3D models were designed. The digital designs were then brought to life through PolyJet printing, a 3D printer that can accurately replicate the intricate details and textures that were generated by the AI.
