aura
Walter Benjamin's 1935 essay The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction argued that technologies like photography and film transformed how art is created and perceived, eroding its unique "aura" tied to a specific time and place. Today's advent of artificial intelligence represents a comparable upheaval: AI can now generate, remix, and magnify artistic expression at unprecedented speed and scale, threatening yet again to reconfigure the meaning of creative authorship.
Reflections on Mechanical Creativity was made to examine how these new AI technologies shape our understanding of art, authorship, and the "aura" once thought to be rooted in human experience.
