The work Latent Scull is part of a larger series entitled Content Aware Studies, which we refer to as an artistic intervention on reverse archaeology.
The series includes sculptures, videos and texts as inquiries into reverse archaeology through Ai models and datasets of 3D scans. Aimed at reconstructing missing fragments within sculptures of classical antiquity and palaeontological objects, these computational systems exercise a speculative object-oriented historicism of never-existing, yet algorithmically genuine, documents of synthetic histories.
The work latent scull is based on hundreds of 3D scans collected at the Museum of Natural History in Vienna, Austria, as part of a multi-year research effort.
