Music for AI Audience (2024 ->) is a collaborative piece between custom deep learning software and a musician. It’s a 10-15 minute live performance based on a feedback loop between the improvising musician and the AI audience.
The audience consists of multimodal LLM agents. Captioning what they see or hear, the audience members observe the cello performance and make image and web searches accordingly, letting their minds wander. These outputs guide the musician to improvise further. Like the agents, the cellist acts on prompts in this feedback loop.
The human audience witnesses both the musician and the inner workings of the AI audience as a projection.
The piece encourages LLM agents, usually used to boost automation and efficiency, to engage in more emotional outputs in live art context. It also explores the creative possibilities of performing for a non-human audience that is never distracted, always observing.
